Rotary Club Holds Charter Installation
"Charter Night installation of the Rotary Club
of Furnitureland was held at the Holiday Inn West Monday evening with prominent
Rotarians of District 769 joining members and their wives in participating in
the occasion. Dr. Charles W. Lowry, of Pinehurst, as District Governor, presented
the charter to President Bill J. Green. J. Ed Pleasants, president of the
sponsoring High Point Rotary club, presented Rotary lapel buttons to each member.
Past Governor Arnold A. Schiffman, recently returned
from the International convention at Sydney, Australia, was speaker of the occasion
with a challenge to the new club to make its place of usefulness in service of
its community. He was introduced by past Governor Henry W. Anderson of Eden,
chairman of the District 769 extension committee. | The
new club, organized as a special project of the High Point Club, with Frank H.
Wood, Jr. and Tom R. English Jr. directing is the 37th club in the district.
Past Governor James E. Lambeth, of Thomasville, served as
master of ceremonies for the occasion. Mrs. Lambeth brought a special message
of greeting to the Rotary Anns. Officers
of the new club, in addition to President Green, are Jerry L. Drye, vice president;
Coy O. Williard, Jr., secretary; John F. Stunda, treasurer; and richard F. Wood,
sergeant-at-arms. In addition, directors are Joe L. Davis, T.R.Hendrix Jr.

"That was quite an assemblage of leading Rotarians from
throughout the 769th District that came here last night to formally install High
Point's second club, the Furnitureland, in a gala dinner party last evening at
Holiday Inn West, home base of the new club which meets there for its Monday luncheons.
The attendant fireworks of an electrical storm which threatened to interrupt the
electrical service never accomplished that, but gave an eerie background to the
otherwise delightful occasion. Rarely have so many past governors, most of them
just returned from their International Convention in Australia, gathered here
as were on hand to help install the new club, 37th of the district. Thomasville's
Jim Lambeth Jr. did a masterful job of emceeing the event, for which Greensboro's
Arnold A. Shiffman was speaker with a challenge for the club to make its place
of usefulness in service of its community. Welcome, Furnitureland Rotary, born
so auspiciously with a great charter group!" Source
